bookshelves: senses, zoo-crew

This is a great book to read to children when you are teaching a unit on the five senses. It is also a good book to read to children when they are lerning about animals at the zoo. It is an easy read and the pictures are very bright and colorful.

Learning activity: Ld1b: Children will restate questions.

I will introduce the book to the children. I will read the book one time through to the class, then I will read it again but ask the children to help me read the book. I will read the first sentence and ask the children to finish the rest of the sentence. Ex) "Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see"?.....the children will answer: "I see a polar bear looking at me". After we finish the book, in a large group setting, I will ask the children to ask each other what they see around the classroom? Ex) Suzane will ask her peer: "Johnny, Johnny what do you see"? Johnny will answer: "I see Tony (classroom pet) looking at me". Then Johnny will ask the classmate sitting next to him the same question and so on. This is an excellent way for children to learn about the sense of sight. They will be using one of their five senses to describe the environment around them!
