really liked it

Harvey Pekar, chronicler of the complexities of ordinary life, tells one of his most affecting stories yet in this recounting of his youth. An intelligent and capable boy who was also a compulsive perfectionist, Pekar automatically quit anything he felt he couldn't excel at--including school, several jobs, sports teams, and musical ambitions. It is a testament to Pekar's emotional honesty that I can highly relate to so many of his materials, even though my experience is very remote from a Jewish male who beat up neighborhood kids and played on the football team.
