Being from Edinburgh myself, and having rented lots of shared flats in my time, I immediately identified with characters in this novel. McCall Smith has done a wonderful job of giving us a glimpse into everyday Edinburgh life with the wacky residents, the streets and scenery, and the strange & not-so-strange workings of peoples lives. Reading it, I felt a little homesick which I don't normally feel being here in Germany and I will definately read the next books in the series.[return][return]The language is easy to read, the story is very smooth and enjoyable and you'll find yourself becoming friends with the characters. The ones you'll end up hating get their come-uppance while the ones you love end up coming out on top.[return][return]A wonderful book. Highly recommended!
