This is a book I found hard to get into because of the subject. A woman looses her focus for 1 minute and a child in her care disappears. That is my worst nightmare, and a topic that I wish I could stay blissfully ignorant of.
I began reading it because of the amount of comments
I have heard about it, and then stayed with it because it ended up being more than the mystery of a lost child.
The book also carries the background story of Abbey's childhood. So the story becomes about forgiveness, family, the mystery of what function memory can have in our life.
By the end I was the most impressed with the memory portion of it. I thought of this book as an arguement for the merrits of the story in the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry. I won't give anything away on either book, but with both you ask yourself whether you would give up your memories; good and bad; to save yourself from the bad memories.
