Tried to review this yesterday but accidentally deleted it in the process.

This is the second book I've read by this author (the first was Don't Breathe a Word). The plot line and writing style are extremely similar, and glancing at her other books it seems like they at least fit the plot pattern as well. This isn't necessarily a bad thing -- after all, I found both books very entertaining and sped through this one very quickly! And in both books, the plot twists kept me thinking. But I get the feeling if I continue reading books by this author that I'll get the feeling of "haven't I read this before?"

Both books deal with the disappearances of young girls, both have an element of family involvement and "things aren't as they seem" when it comes to the families, both have someone who is now an adult who dealt with someone disappearing during their childhood and how this affects who they are in the present. Both books are told in a dual-narrative style, switching off between the past and the present. And of course, both are set in rural Vermont, where Ms. McMahon lives.

In addition, both books were able to keep me guessing with plot twists and unexpected revelations. In this book, I was able to figure out one aspect of the plot pretty early on, but most of my other guesses turned out wrong. I love when books do the unexpected and surprise me, and this one did a great job of that.

Plus I absolutely LOVED reading about the kids' theatrical performances. Made me wish I'd organized something like that instead of just joining the formal summer theater!

Definitely worth reading if you want a quick, fun but still suspenseful read.
