An informative introduction to wolf conservation in the U.S., with a good deal of attention to how wolves live. Explains the science and history in simple, clear language, and is clear about the author's opinion while still willing to admit uncertainty. He's strongly in favor of the various plans to reintroduce wolves to various parts of the country, though he disagrees with some other conservationists who he says aren't willing to admit that wolves could be dangerous (here I tend to agree with him) and who want to protect even healthy wolf populations from hunting (which seems to me like a basic responsibility toward any species we don't eat, dangerous or not). I think it has all the basics I will need to understand more in-depth explanations about U.S. wolves, though it leaves an unnatural gap by not talking about the gray wolves of Canada and Mexico.
