Prepare to be completely drawn into the beauty and danger of Hawaii with Neal’s captivating BLOOD ORCHIDS. Her characters are multidimensional and her descriptions of Hawaii – the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes – vivid. With ease, Neal weaves several plots through the story and keeps the tension high.

Neal’s background as a counselor must have contributed to the creation of the very believable Lei Texeira, a feisty police officer with a harrowing and hidden past. Texeira has to deal with dissociative states brought on by exposure to the murder of people she knows and loves; a burgeoning yet forbidden relationship with the lead detective on the cases; and revelations about her past.

With this novel and its dive into the seedier side of Hawaii, Neal sets the stage for what will surely be a fascinating crime series. Get ready to fall in love with Hawaii, Lei Texeira, and (especially) a Rottweiler named Keiki when you read BLOOD ORCHIDS.
