Real long, real detailed and easy to get lost in the midst of seemingly unimportant details (I don't care what it was he had for breakfast). I suppose that it was necessary to write an account in that much detail though. I'm glad I know a lot of the ins and outs of the civil war now, just wish it didn't take 1008 pages to get there.
