really liked it

Stacy Justice is an investigative reporter for her local newspaper who has a penchant for finding trouble or vice versa, dependent upon whom you are asking, Stacy or someone else.

When her cousin Cinnamon's bar, the Black Opal, catches fire, Stacy barely escapes because of trying to save her dog Thor, hidden behind the beer kegs. Also, Stacy comes from a family of witches. She claims she isn't a witch, but she does have a wand and joins in on her aunts hex circle on occasion.

Unfortunately, the next day the fire is determined arson, and Cinnamon is the prime suspect. Stacy isn't surprised as the townfolk tend to shy away from her family. However, she is adamant that Cinnamon didn't do it and decides to investigate the fire herself.

Digging in the basement of the bar for clues, Stacy unveils a mummified body in the wall. Someone doesn't want Stacy's investigation to go forward because danger begins to lurk around every corner for Stacy. Exploding chickens, a car wreck, an icy dip in the lake and more try to block Stacy's investigation, but she is one determined woman. Even her lack of skills in the magic department don't deter her goal, but she in fact learned everything a witch needed to learn before she was thirteen; she had just suppressed the knowledge. Will her magic knowledge come back in time to help with her investigation and help secure her own life's safety?

Opal Fire is a delightful cozy mystery! Stacy and all of the women in her family carry strong personalities and unique characteristics that make this story come to life. Thor is a humourous and needed addition to the cast as they dodge danger and unforseen clues. The story end leaves the reader satisfied but yet alludes to another in the series. I look forward to reading it! A very keen and magical book!
