The sign of a good mystery is when any of a lengthy - but not too lengthy! - list of characters could be the culprit. And Carolyn Hart creates just that kind of a gem of a tangled web in Death in Lovers' Lane, the third novel featuring reporter-turned-unofficial sleuth Henrietta "Henrie O" Collins. At a lovely, idyllic university in Missouri, where Henrie O is a member of the faculty - a university whose past involves the senseless murders of two young students, the disappearance of the Dean of Students, and the mysterious death of a third student - Henrie O utilizes her wit, canniness, and skills of observation to avenge the death of yet another student, a student whose latest project was uncovering the truth behind those long-ago events. A race from start to finish, with a surprisingly-affecting finale, it's just the kind of book a cold winter night calls for.
