A thought provoking read.

At first glance PRIDE"S RUN by Cat Kalen appears to be nothing more than an entertaining YA shape shifter story. But as I read I realized that once I looked past the paranormal aspects of the story I was really reading about man's ability to justify inhumane acts against his fellow creatures whether human or animal.

Pride is a young shifter who was bred and raised to be an enforcer for the cruel leader of a drug cartel. She dreams of of freedom, of escaping, but knows by doing so she puts the lives of the other shifters she cares for in danger of reprisal. There's a hint of romance in the story, but the focus is on Pride's bid for freedom and justice.

Ms Kalen's story delves into the minds and hearts of an enslaved people. Using a paranormal element she shows the horror of slavery and brings home the truth that no matter a person's race, no man has the right to own another.

I look forward to reading more of Pride's journey to freedom.
