It's hard for my brain to even conceive that this is a product of the 1990's. That it sat on store shelves alongside Spawn and X-Force. That it built, chapter by chapter, a work of art that will last forever while the rest of the industry was utterly disposable. That it still stands head and shoulders above most anything being published in any genre you'd wish to categorize it, even by today's more literary standards.

Personally, I prefer the more whimsical early chapters to the grand fantasy of the later ones, but the story never loses track of where it's going. Jeff Smith crafts the plot with the same care and skill that he crafts a gag or a chase scene, populating it with characters you can't help but love and creating a world unlike anything in the history of comics.

Evan Yes, I would be embarrassed to rattle off a list of all the comics I dutifully bought throughout the early- and mid-nineties! ;)

Jordan But like fashion, it's never embarrassing at the time...
