Unhinged (Home Repair is Homicide, #6)
by Sarah Graves
by Sarah Graves
I am enjoying reacquainting myself with this Sarah Graves series. I read a few of them before and enjoyed them, but lost touch somewhere along the way. I decided to read them (and reread them in some cases) in order now, though you really don’t have to read them in order to enjoy the books.
I’ve come to realize Jake and Ellie are a bit meddlesome and are busybodies to some degree. For some reason, though, they don’t annoy me as many cozy heroines do. Maybe it’s the fact that there’s a lot of talk with their family, partners and the town sheriff, before they go off on their own to do some investigating. They also have a good relationship with the sheriff and not an adversarial one. I don’t think he necessarily likes that they investigate on their own, but he is a bit laid back and picks his battles where he needs to and otherwise lets thing lie were they are. This is a small town in off the coast of Maine so maybe there is some clannishness and a small town dynamic I’m not familiar with, but appreciate.
So, even though Jake and Ellie maybe the precursors of the annoying and TDTL cozy heroines in the current mysteries genre, I’m going to continue to read this series for now.
