The first half of the story is decent but the latter really does read like a Wikipedia entry on the war in question. The every-day life was more interesting than a list of the horrible things that happened.

My biggest problem was that I didn't like the characters. I was especially disappointed by the author's treatment of female characters who did nothing of importance. Well, one did: the only female character with any agenda of her own ends up being one of the worst apples on the family tree.
