really liked it
bookshelves: biography-memoir, can-lit, non-fiction

A very quick read about Hemingway in Toronto. Though not terribly fond of Toronto, Hemingway said "it was a good place to write." (He said this about every place he wrote). Donnell's central argument is that not liking Toronto pushed Hemingway to focus and develop what would become his style. Hemingway's time writing for The Toronto Star streamlined his writing setting him up for the flurry of work he wrote after leaving for Paris.
