The story of a man, a guillotine, and Pancho Villa.

While the story borders on episodic (which it feels like half of Arriaga's screenplays are, as well), it gives the main character enough of a throughline to avoid repetition and maintain enough momentum to push the story to its conclusion. The humor in the book is the darkest of black, which is to my taste.

It's a quick read and original. And that's a good combination.
