Read in January, 2012

I had read this book at one time but chose to reread it because Marilyn Green Faulkner (author of Back to the Best Books) chose it as the book for the month of January at her site www.backtothebestbooks.com Loved this book (could hardly put it down!) and look forward to Marilyn's other monthly recommendations. On 1-18-12 we watched the DVD--the newest version. It was excellent--so well casted.

Marilyn wrote on her BLOG: January: Our theme is Family First, and we’ll take a look at the Pulitzer Prize winning The Magnificent Ambersons, by Booth Tarkington. A fascinating and frustrating look at a family in decline in turn-of-the-century middle America.

February: Growing Pains is my way of referring to the coming-of-age novels about young women. I’ve had a hankering to reread Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott, and I want to invite you into that warm, wonderful world with me.

March: Boys to Men. Now it’s the boys’ turn for a coming-of-age story, and in honor of the 200th anniversary of Dickens’s birth let’s take on one of the greatest books ever written on that theme, David Copperfield. It was Dickens’s favorite and we’ll see why.
