One of the best books I have ever read, this belongs with To Kill A Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby. It is a book of time and place, with one of the creepeist characters ever written, Mrs. Danvers. A new, young, innocent bride arrives at Manderley as Maxim de Winter's second wife and finds that life there is full of secrets and surprises. Daphne du Maurier wrote an exquisite novel of romance and suspense, which rightfully deserves its place in the pantheon of literary greats.

Chris I'm right with you on where this belongs, those are my favorites as well! The Alfred Hitchcock movie from the 1930s, I believe, is quite good! :-)
