The main conceit of this book is a lot of fun. There's an alternate timeline where Neanderthals became the dominant species, and a Neanderthal scientist doing experiments in quantum computing accidentally falls into our timeline. When things get really interesting is when the Neanderthal's partner is charged with his murder, because he's gone missing.

My only complaint would be that Sawyer is a little species-est, against humans. His Neanderthal society is like a liberal socialist utopia, with a few Neanderthal oddities thrown in.

Note: I read this book in audiobook format from Audible.com.
