It took only a few pages for Tender Morsels to cast its spell on me. Firstly, Lanagan is one heck of a writer. She nails voice in a way that is nothing short of breathtaking. Secondly, this book is dark: think fairy tales meets Precious . Lanagan warps the stock middle ages setting into someplace strange and unfamiliar, perhaps different from so much I have read because she's Australian. Next up from that continent, Melina Marchetta.
