Influencing contemporary authors such as Yann Martel (Life of Pi), Dino Buzzati's 'The Tartar Steppe' is an Italian masterpiece in every sense. One of the most harrowing and emotion laden novels I have ever read. Buzzati really brings the emotion off of the page and paints the setting with the same fulness and vibrancy of a Dalhi canvas.

With it's great translation, The Tartar Steppe should be a book that every high-schooler should be equipped with before venturing out into the strange world of Life. Life lessons are aplenty in this forgotten-by-most masterpiece.
