** spoiler alert ** I loved the first book and enjoyed half of the second book, but after was a bit of a slog.

The premise is very interesting: we have two star-crossed lovers, Tengo and Aomame, who find themselves in the world of 1Q84. There is the slow build-up to learning the connection between the two characters and some drama and fantasy (the Little People!!). However, this doesn't seem to go anywhere and the reader needs to go through many pages for an extremely low-key ending.

I love Murakami's descriptions of the players and their lives, but in this set, it became very repetitive. I could understand the endless repetition, if there had been some point to it (e.g., if he had been playing with repetition to underline differences in worlds or lives or whatever). Also, the sex scenes are terrible, as are the endless descriptions of the female character's breasts.

I've loved other Murakami books, but unfortunately this one just did not work for me.
