** spoiler alert **
Anne becomes the school teacher in Avonlea with much of the novel centered on her relationship with Miss Lavender and her student Paul Irving. Paul's father turns out to be Miss Lavender's old beau. Davy and Dora, the children of a distant cousin of Marilla's, come to live at Green Gables. Davy is just as charming (if not more so) as Anne was in the first novel. He carries much of the novel with his downright hilarious adventures and commentary! At the end of the novel Marilla and Anne agree on Ms. Lynde coming to stay at Green Gables since her husband has dies and which frees Anne to finally attend Redmond College.
