This book was just OK, to me. Which was a bit of a disappointment because I saw the author, Suzanne Harper, speak, and liked her So Well. She seems really smart, kind and interesting. The book, though, took a great concept and made it fall just a bit flat. For one thing, the way the characters talked really got on my nerves. The supposedly 15-year-old protag, Sparrow Delaney, says things like "My word" and "Perhaps" and "You flatter yourself." You know, like the author forgot to make the kid sound like a kid, and somehow her editors overlooked it, too. Also, I found myself bored and impatient through about the first half of the book -- almost 200 pp -- and wishing I could get to the meat of the story. So I guess it was meaty enough, in the end, but I did have to skim a lot to get to it. I wish it'd been more action-packed.
