When I first read The Goblin King, I saw a series that was a bit rough, but incredibly promising. There were some writing kinks the author needed to work through, but the story and characters were strong and I was very excited to see where this unique idea would go.

However, I think Husk made a tactical error. She took her characters out of the successful Shadowlands and ended the goblin curse in the first book. As a result, neither of the next two heroes had the same setting and the stories suffered as a result. Instead if an action packed story, we got pages upon pages of introspection by the hero and it was monotonous, repetitive, and very disappointing.
