This is an enjoyable beach read. Very fast read. I couldn't decide between 2 and 3 stars but settled on 2 because there are too many things that I feel critical about. The writing is formulaic and dry at places. There are moments where I really didn't care what I was reading. For example, Hannah would write how a character went up stairs, put on pajamas, brushed their teeth and got into bed. These are normal life trivialities and they annoyed me. The other major criticism I had was, especially in the end, the book is very cheesy. Things wrap up too perfectly and everyone is happy. It is the ultimate happy ending and is too unrealistic. However, this is not a bad book. There is something refreshing about letting go and allowing things to wrap up nicely. And a lot of people don't like reading literary fiction like I do, and I do not want to condescend about this book. I recommend it to those who enjoy family stories that have a quick and superficial character development. If someone is looking for a deeper read Hannah's "Winter Garden" would suffice. I wrote a review of that book too.
