I want to start off by saying that the author gave me a chance to review this book for free after I had previously reviewed the first book in the series. Thank you Melissa for considering me for this review.

Chalice is back in book 2 of the series and it starts moments after we left her in book 1. they have escaped the danger at Chainbridge and they must decide what to do next. People are very sick and they need some serous help if they are going to make it. Chalice helps make a tough decision which lands them in Portalis. An underground city which was previously ruled by her father.

This book started off little slow for me. Maybe it was a new place and a whole new round of world building. I battled through some of the parts I found a little slow and a little confusing. I knew that there had to be so much more waiting for me at the end of the book.

Once Chalice with her new found powers sets out on an entirely too dangerous mission do things start to heat up. Chalice is on her way to an enemy island to set free some hopefully fire breathing allies. The last 90 pages or so were fast paced and full of so much emotion I had a hard time slowing down. I wanted to read this one fully and give myself enough time to fully review the book for the author. But unfortunately after I hit a certain point there was no return.

Damn you cliff hanger. I'll have to wait for the next one to see what happens!!!

I loved the relationship development between Jeremiah and Chalice. It seemed to me that Chalice grew up a lot in this most recent book. I look forward to seeing what this new found knowledge will bring her next.
