This is the kind of book that lingers pleasantly in your mind for a long time after reading it. I liked everything about this book for older chilren on the subject of the death of a boy's soldier father and the ways that different relatives cope with it. Black Jack Jetty is such a special and magical, cozy place that you feel as if you're having an enjoyable vacation along with the family and also suffering with them in their grief at the same time. I liked the subplot of the treasure hunt and would enjoy reading a sequel by Michael Carestio so I can once again vacation with that loving, memorable family.
