Original photographs by Frank Hurley beautifully reproduced in this account of the amazing Shackleton expedition to the Antarctic make the book. The expedition details and chronology are nicely written and make much use of the men's journals written en route. Alexander does a great job of bringing the cast of characters back to life and showing us the details of their days--both the quiet and the near fatal ones.

Colleen Michelle,
I read Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage by Alfred Lansing some years ago and it was one of my all-time favorite books. I wonder what the difference is in Caroline Alexander's book. Let me know what you think.
