The fourth book in the Thursday Next series picks up two years after the close of book 3. After so much time in the book world, Thursday is finally ready to take up her old life outside fiction. Unfortunately, there's a homicidal Minotaur still on the loose, the other literary detectives keep popping in for advice, Goliath is trying to not only take over the world but become a religion and Yorick Kaine is poised to become supreme dictator of England. Just your usual, run-of-the-mill stuff for Thursday!

Like the previous three books, Something Rotten, is a wonderful combination of wit, humor, farce and mystery. Fforde's humor is sharp and pointed and usual and every line is a delight. The characters are all true to form and as engaging as always. Somehow, Fforde managed to keep everything fresh and new the plot and pace are anything but formulaic.

In particular, I really loved the ending. It was perfect, poignant and satisfying. This felt like a series ender and indeed, Fforde wrapped everything up quite neatly. Despite that, I am overjoyed he decided to pen a fifth Thursday novel and can't wait to jump into it!
