(Being a citizen of the nation that the world was about to disavow) <br/> <br/>Yet I have had quite the opposite reaction. I am greatly excited about this nations future and the future of the world as a result of Zakaria's outstanding review of the results of globalization. <br/> <br/>Only 250 pages in length while full of insight and information. <br/> <br/>The Post-American World starts from the beginning, how did America become the lone superpower in a strangely unpredicted unipolar world. How did globalization change the playing field. Then the strengths and weaknesses of America are detailed along with the best descriptions of modern China and India that I have ever read. <br/> <br/>Finally, the book closes by covering the power of America and last of all the steps America must take in the future to excel in this new world. <br/> <br/>The greatest insight I gained is into the fact that "We won"... we built this world. Capitalism and the free market are changing the international landscape and lifting billions out of poverty. Yet America has not fully understood that its role in the future is a power broker instead of the world's sole power. Our universities and our openness are the strength of the nation. To become the worlds (and possibly histories) first true open melting pot of culture and idealism is the heritage and the future of the US. Now if only we can get Washington to move us in that direction... <br/> <br/>Alice Waters recently said that Obama read "The Omnivore's Dilemma"... well this is a book that not only Obama needs to read but everyone involved in the US Federal Government. Only if we understand these realities can we ensure the success of America and the world. <br/> <br/>Filled with great descriptions and a truly accurate portrait of the world's economic and political reality, this has been the most important book I've read this year. <br/> <br/>I said at the start that if I saw the phrase "Flat world" more than twice I would shut it and never continue reading.
