Let me start by saying, I don't really know anything about Canadian history. Let me follow that up by saying, I don't really care to know anything about Canadian history. That being said, I would have to say about half of Beaton's comic strips in this book went right over my head. I appreciated her explanations about who these characters were, but once they had to be explained, they ceased to be funny.

What I did enjoy, however is the stuff I did "get", like all the literary comics. Anne's sleeve obsession, Verne and Wells' scifi debate, Elizabeth and Darcy's restraint, Javert in the B Files: all of that stuff made me chuckle mightily, and is well worth the read.

In the end, this is not a book I would need in my collection, but one I'm glad I was able to peruse.
