I like it when I read a few books about the same theme--which I didn't know I was doing when I started this book, but it's also about the Dominican Republic's Trujillo dictatorship and as such went nicely with The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao.

At times it felt simplistic, but I still haven't decided if that's because it's young adult, or if it's because my own understanding of Spanish is simplistic. heh. It did make me cry, though, so it couldn't have been too bad, right?:)

Stasia I put this book on hold at the library because I thought it was originally written in Spanish, but it turns out it was translated from English. Alas! I've been trying to read things that were originally in Spanish--but I guess now that I have this one, I'll read it (the goal is to get better at Spanish, after all:). But if anyone has originally-Spanish recommendations (at a young adult level, heh), let me know!:)
