Victorian poets and Vampires! I just read they might make a movie of this. I'll have to reread it to keep my memory fresh.

I am rereading this, since Tim Powers just wrote a connected book, and he is such a devious author that I don't want to miss any allusions.

May 2012

Reread finished. I had forgotten how good Powers could be at the top of his game. I've reread Last Call (I love that book, but I was surprised to find that I found the pacing so slow when I reread it), and I reread On Stranger Tides, which was not as crisp as I remembered either, but this one still retained its luster. I've had a soft spot for Shelly and Byron since I was in High School, and I've had a soft spot for Tim Powers since realizing that here was someone who could design a consistent system for how his version of the world operated and stick with it throughout this writing. Now to find and read the new one.
