really liked it

Finished the short story collection Songs of Love and Death, edited by GRRM and Gardner Dozois.

All in all, a very good collection, although there's no new story by GRRM in it. But I guess A Song of Ice and Fire has enough love and death already...

Some highlights:

Love Hurts by Jim Butcher: a story set in the Harry Dresden universe, in which Harry and Murphy investigate a case of couples who go crazy and kill eachother after apparently having been subjected to a love-spell. A certain amount of tragedy ensues...
The Wayfarer's Advice by Melinda M Snodgrass, in which a man is suddenly reunited with his lost love, in the middle of a huge field of debris after a space battle. A really detailed and interesting world. I wouldn't mind reading a novel set in there.
The Thing About Cassandra by Neil Gaiman. Stuart invented a perfect girlfriend when he was a lonely teenager...and suddenly, years later, she shows up...Really good story, with a rather confusing end.
Under/Above the Water by Tanith Lee: a beautiful, dreamlike story about a man and a woman who find eachother although they live thousands of years apart.

That's the really good stories in the book. They may appear few, but they really stand out. Most of the stories are very solid and entertaining, but maybe not all that gripping as they could have been.
The composition is pretty much like this:
Very good stories: 4
Good solid stories: 10
Rather crappy stories: 3
I guess that's what you call a bell curve...

All in all, well worth it.
