Scarpetta re-read, part six: From Potter's Field (1995)
Originally read on: 15th January 2012

Just random-ish notes this time:
How many old mentors does Scarpetta have? They always pop up when it's convenient for the plot to offer a few wise words for Kay and there's no mention of them beforehand or afterwards. I understand she has contacts after working for 20+ years, but still...

I really did not get the feeling that the antagonist was somehow a real monster or to be feared; the picture painted in the first half of the book made him seem like just another criminal who just happened to murder a few people. Also, the whole novel was more of a manhunt and less about the cases; the forensic issues were pushed back and everything was about the people.

Also, there was some unnecessary exposition (like what are service tunnels or exits in a subway... seriously?).
