really liked it
Read from January 06 to 23, 2012

Michael Ondaatje is a wonderful writer. the story is fiction but has some autobiographical elements to it. It is about a young man's coming of age on a cruise ship. There is a wonderful cast of characters and shows life as it was during the author's youth. It would be much harder to do now, some of the things that were done then on this ship. He touches on many subjects..culture, status, undesirables, racism and much more. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I was interrupted in the reading so often that my interest in the story would wane as a result. It is not a story with a plot as one would find in a mystery but is more a series of vignettes following many characters and story lines.
