Abarat (Abarat, #1)
by Clive Barker
by Clive Barker
This is the first Clive Barker I have read and I liked it. It's a fantasy novel for young adults.
I like that the main character is from a small town in Minnesota (which is obviously meant to be in stark contrast to the fantasy world they enter). It is a town that revolves around a chicken plant. I know towns like this (substitute turkey).
I like the artwork.
This book seems to be setting us up for the future books. It's a complex fantasy world he has created, so there's lots to explore. I will read more.

There are four books in the series so far; Barker is planning for seven. Glad you enjoyed it!
