A beautifully written memoir by a woman fighting serious depression and the successes she achieves with the help of a psychiatrist she calls Dr. R. As one who suffers from depression (to varying degrees), I feel this affected me in a different way than it would a reader with no concept of the illness. Forrest creates the most gorgeous prose and manages to be self-deprecating and aware of herself in a manner that promotes feelings of warmth and connection with the reader. I believe the reviewers who scourged this as a work of extreme narcissism and self-indulgence have no idea just how all-consuming depression can be. Speaking from experience, when depression is running the show, there is little room for anyone else.
