I really didn't like this book. It is an amazing story of fortitude and survival, but it was so hard to read, I kept putting it down because it was too depressing. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the book had been more about her whole life, with fewer details of this experience in the middle. He didn't have to spend multiple chapters on freezing, starving and eating bugs. I've read books similar to this that I really loved, like These is My Words, or Mrs. Mike. These books also had tragic events in them, but I think the difference is that they didn't spend the whole book on only those tragic events. Also the racy cover is accurate, there was some of that in it that seems unnecessary, like he was trying to make it appeal to women more by making it more romantic? I just didn't like this author's version of the story I guess.

Julie I read this book as a teenager--so it's been a while--but I remember that I loved it. I didn't think it was depressing or hard to read, either. And I don't remember it being racy at all. Interesting. I'll have to read it again and see what I think.
