I really loved Anne Rice's early novels, the Vampire Chronicles and her Mayfair Witches, however when she found God again her books changed and they weren't for me. So it was with great trepidation that I started this one. It seemed like it was going to be like the books of old. However after 100 pages I am giving it up. This book moves at a snails pace. Reuben was so bland as a character. He seemed to morph into whatever those around him wanted him to be.

Reuben seemed to come alive when he set foot in the Nideck house. I liked his vibe with Marchent. I loved how both of them seemed enchanted with the house and with uncle Felix. Then the attack happens and things start to go a little crazy. Reuben becomes even more passive at this point. It is only when he changes that he starts to come alive. I like that the went after the bad guys, but it was weird too. When Reuben went to buy bigger clothes to hide his man-wolf form, I decided it was too much for me. In the end this one just isn't for me.

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ Glad it's not just me

Darcy I know what you mean. After you gave it up, I went in with even lower expectations and that didn't help. lol
