Melanie, a 21-year-old, is one of the last humans to be taken over by an alien species. She becomes an unwilling host to Wanderer, one of the alien souls who has travelled to many planets across the galaxy. Melanie is not giving in easily, however; Wanderer finds herself plagued with painful memories of Melanie's past, and eventually gives in to search for the family Melanie left behind. The Host focuses on Wanderer's internal struggle - should she help Melanie out by befriending her family, or should she help her own race by turning them in?
