There was a lot of jumping around between time periods, but it didn't get out of control. It is the story of six friends (with the focus on one), beginning in high school. This book takes place as they are turning 30. It looks like (from the cover) that it is the beginning of a series, so maybe each of the friends will have a turn as protagonist.
