The first few chapters of this book, I almost gave up on it. I almost put it down and took it back to the library. It was SO odd, so off-the-wall, so disjointed. I couldn't even figure out the time period or where it was supposed to take place.
But wow, I am so glad I stuck with it. I LOVED this book. The characters are so real they jump right off the page (especially Rose, Briony's twin sister). The writing is absolutely beautiful, and the mystery kept me turning pages faster and faster to find out the truth.
This is one I'll want to buy and re-read several times for the sheer artistry of the writing and fascinating characters.
