Very quick read about a choice a boy has to make about doing the right thing. In my opinion, he chose wrong. That is why there are only three stars. The format is interesting, though. He writes obits for a newspaper and the book is set up in a similar format.

Cornmaven I saw it from the perspective that there was no good solution to the situation, and the kid chose, in Anne Lamott's words, what he thought to be "the next right thing." The whole history of Joey's and Michael's escapades as kids figured into his decision. His choice not to rat out Joey may have saved Joey's life. I wasn't sure that ratting out Joey would have changed much for the drug dealers themselves (they eventually would recover and live another day to sell drugs), and it sure would have changed a lot for Joey, made his life worse. Plus, could Michael have lived with himself if he had gotten off via his jock status? The school might have given him special treatment because of it. There's even a little bit of hope for Joey that he can turn his life around as a result of this 'pass.'

That's why I thought this book would make a good discussion book for teens. Lots of grey area here, as there is in life.
