The day Valli discovered that the people she'd always called Aunt and Uncle, who took her in when her parents died, were not even related to her was the best day of her life. She stowed away on a coal truck, which took her away from her bleak coal town and everything she knew to Kolkata. She learns to live on the streets, but although she enjoys her freedom, she often wonders what her future will be. With the encouragement of a kind doctor who tries to help her, Valli realizes that maybe she can really do something great with her life. A simply written but eye-opening glimpse of the life of an Indian street orphan with leprosy.
