Sadly, could only give 2 stars. I thought 4 at the beginning for its strong strong start, but it just degraded after that. I had high hopes for it, too, the story elements are all there - some might even say derivative (Uglies anyone? Matched anyone?), but it just turns into a jumble at the end.

I think it suffers from too much reveal. There are too many surprises, too many shocks. And they're all felt through Lark, who is just this messed up happy/sad split personality by the end. There's a lot of introspection, that unfortunately slows the story development to a mere chug. I really came to dislike Lark by the end, she became a bit of a helpless little whiner.

Like I said, I wanted to like it, the blending of magic with dystopia is a great idea, but it just doesn't come out in the wash. Plus, please go through and edit it again. Towards the end the words 'New paragraph?' pop up - that took me out of the story somewhat!

I loved the cover!
