A small but noteworthy contribution to Australia's republic debate. Notwithstanding the rightness of rejecting the 1999 republic referendum proposition, which sought to further concentrate power in the political class, this country
needs to remove the tea towel of the Union Jack from our flag and found an independent republic. Being 'a thing of the people', however, means that this can't be progressed without the Australia people being stirred to action. Either great and sustained rhetoric that cuts across the socioeconomic divides in Australia or a momentous event or series of events are required...
