Under much protest, my mother purchased a Kindle for me for Christmas. She's anti-e-reader. She's old school. She likes BOOKS. I get that. But I'll still read and buy actual physical books. And I'm still reading, mom. It's not my like my brother who has added books-on-tape to his repertoire. I haven't sunk THAT low just yet.

So back to Mindy Kaling's book. This was in my first bundle of purchases for my e-reader and the first book I read. She claimed early on it would take me only two days to read it. It took me 20 minutes on Day 3 to polish it off but, you know, it was the holidays. I only know Kaling from her work on The Office and an interview she did about this book on NPR. (Let's face it, MOST of the books I read are based on hearing about them on NPR. It's how one rolls when one doesn't have cable TV.) I thought my Kindle would be the perfect way to read my chick-lit and other things which, you know, I wouldn't necessarily want people in public know I'm reading.

A quick read. An easy read. An entraining read. I love her sense of humor. I love her ability to be both confident and self-effacing. In fact, I was having a tough few days but reading this put me in a good mood. Not necessarily in a profound way or in a "this is how to live my life" kind of way ... but in a way that made me happy, calm and confident. Sound weird? Yeah. It is. I'd like to think that Mindy would appreciate that.
