Out of all the Nightrunner books, I rank "White Road" probably at the bottom of my favorites. "Shadows Return" is just above it. Not that they were bad books, but they never really felt like Nightrunner books. With "Casket of Souls", Lynn Flewelling has returned to what she's good at: intrigue and swashbuckling, with a touch of magic. "Casket" is exciting and engaging, and a very satisfying read. The only real complaint I have is that she swapped character POV midstream, at times, which really threw me at first. I eventually became used to it, so it didn't really hurt the book.
I know Ms. Flewelling is planning on one more Nightrunner book, and I can't wait to see how all of this wraps up.
(Though if she decided she wanted to throw in a few lesbian characters -- and show them, not tell about them in passing -- that would be brilliant.)
